Yellowstone-Teton 50 mile Endurance Run – Race Preview

The Yellowstone-Teton Endurance Run – 50 mile is my ninth event of the year and takes place this coming Saturday (09/20/2014) starting at Mesa Falls, Idaho and running south through Idaho along the western edge of the Tetons. The 50 mile point to point run is mostly all on paved, packed dirt, and gravel road with only a few thousand feet of vertical gain.

The race primarily follows the beautiful Scenic By-way from Yellowstone National Park to the doorstep of Teton National Park ending in Driggs, Idaho just outside of Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

My goals for this race:
1. Make it to the Start Line. It’s roughly a 12 hour drive to get there.
2. Have fun. I’ll be running with a friend who I haven’t seen in over a year.
3. Have a look around. It’s beautiful country.
4. Make it to the Finish Line. It’s my 3rd 50 miler in just over 2 months.
5. Thank every volunteer and crew. It’s their graciousness, time, and effort that they donate in order to help make sure everyone has the opportunity to finish.

Without further interruption, the Yellowstone-Teton Endurance Run – 50 mile organized by Dreamchasers and Race Directors Lisa Smith-Batchen and Jay Batchen.

Race Entrants:
59 entrants have signed up for the 50 mile race from twenty-one states (Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Iowa, Idaho, Illinois, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, Washington, and Wyoming), three countries total (Moscow, Singapore, and the USA). Four people have finished the race 1 other time. The youngest entrant is 17 years old and the oldest entrant (but will not necessarily be the slowest) is 67 years old.
