The Mt Hood 50 is my sixth event of the year and takes place this coming Saturday (0712/2014) on the southern side of Mt Hood in north central Oregon. The dual out and back, one north at 28 miles and one south at 22 miles, trail run is almost entirely on the well traveled Pacific Crest Trail with 5,500 feet of vert gain and hovering between 3,000-4,000 feet above sea level at the majestic base of Mt Hood.
06/14/2014 – Bryce Canyon 50k – Bryce Canyon, Utah
A 50k race starting at 7,800 feet above sea level, slicing down through blood orange-red sandstone hoodoos before steadily climbing through an undulating 5,500 feet of crisp green pine groves, the Bryce Canyon 50k in southern central Utah is an understated race which should find some national coverage in the not too distant future.
05/17/2014 – Sun Mountain 25k – Mazama, Washington
A course with a little bit of everything including blue skies and wild flowers, the looped 25k race traversed through 2200 vertical feet of rolling summer trails on Sun Mountain in the beautiful Methow Valley. With climbs both runnable and literally breathtaking, mountain range vistas and meandering hillsides cascading into the valley, and hundreds of people scattered along the trail we finished where we started with pizza pies, cold tasty beverages, and stringing lively music by The Pine Hearts.
