2015 Squamish 50/50 – Preview

Can you handle 130km of burly Squamish goodness in just over twenty-four hours? The concept here is simple – race the 50 miler and 50 kilometer events on back-to-back days.

Seems simple enough, except that I’m undertrained and underprepared and a little anxious, but yeah, I’m running the Squamish 50/50 this weekend.

Squamish 50 mile – Race Report

08/16/2014 – Squamish 50M – Squamish, British Columbia, Canada
The race report in 32 short descriptions: Oceanfront start, railroad flat, headlamps on, sweaty humid, Garibaldi aid, still lakes, buttery trail, here we go, short and steep, bike rollers, technical downhill, Galactic Scheisse, fogged in vista, Word of Mouth, somehow still going downhill, Quest University, gnome tree, switchback uphills, hunting rabbits, sit-down on trail leg cramps, hydrate more, is that chafing?, run tentative, oh my, yes, that’s chafing, Mamquam Falls, only 10k left!, renewed energy, Mountain of Phlegm, stairs – seriously?, rock climbers, finally flat, downtown  finish! 50 miles. 11,000 feet of vert. The Squamish 50.

Squamish 50 mile – Race Preview

The Squamish 50 is my seventh event of the year and takes place this coming Saturday (08/16/2014) starting in Squamish, British Columbia, Canada and running north through the headlands around Alice Lake Provincial Park and ending back in downtown Squamish. Technically a point to point race, the 50 mile trail run has both 11,000 feet of vert gain and descent and is a really a clockwise loop with the start and finish about 1km apart.
